Inception…
New Frontier Design, originally known as New Frontier Tiny Homes, was founded by David Latimer and his father Eddie. Eddie, who is the founder and owner of Affordable Housing Resources, Nashville’s oldest affordable housing nonprofit, made it all possible by introducing David to the concept of tiny homes as a solution for affordable housing in Nashville, TN. He financed the construction of 2 tiny homes based on plans from another company to learn about the process and the market before creating their own original designs.

HGTV and The Alpha is Born
David crossed paths with Zac Thomas, who played a pivotal role in the company’s upward trajectory. Zac, who brought 10 years of invaluable production building experience to the table, later invested in the company. An opportunity to be featured on HGTV arose, and David and Zac quickly designed and built the Alpha Tiny Home. Although their original intention was not to create a luxury home, the opportunity to be on TV inspired them to design and build the best tiny home they had ever seen.
The Alpha launched New Frontier into immediate popularity and garnered recognition from all around the world. It was featured on HGTV, Good Morning America, Disney, The Today Show, CNN, and more, and was showcased in publications such as Architectural Digest and Dwell, among others. We were fortunate to be in the right place at the right time.
During this period, David worked at the Entrepreneur Center in Nashville and fortuitously met Stryker Warren, who became a mentor and provided valuable guidance during the company’s formation and early growth.
David and a small team of friends initially built the first few orders, but as demand increased, the need for a full team and a proper production facility became evident.

Expansion!
The year started with a new location and a full-time team of highly skilled builders and craftsmen. Shortly thereafter, we introduced our second original design: the Escher Tiny Home. This design/build also presented another opportunity with HGTV, and we received additional features in Dwell and Architectural Digest.
We collaborated with Disney to build a new home for victims of the California wildfires. We presented it to them live on Good Morning America at Oculus Plaza in the new World Trade Center in NYC.

New Models / Innovation and Olivia Wilde in New York City
We released the Cornelia and the Orchid tiny homes. Due to our busy schedule, we declined other HGTV opportunities in order to focus on scaling and designing new models.
We collaborated with Olivia Wilde and Dunkin’ to create a completely off-grid home that runs on a coffee bean biofuel. The Home that Runs on Dunkin’ was featured at a public event created specifically for the project in Madison Square Park in NYC.
The company continued to gain popularity and a reputation as one of the world’s top tiny home builders in terms of design and quality, leading to increased demand.

Meeting Growing Demand: Building Operations and Sales Teams
With increasing demand from various customer segments, including retail customers, consumers, developers, and Airbnb entrepreneurs, we sought to expand our operations and sales teams. While we had initially built everything in-house for the first 4.5 years, David, our founder, who has a deep passion for design, was ready for a change from managing construction. To scale up, we started outsourcing production.
During this period, we established a successful partnership with Liberation Tiny Homes, a team of exceptionally skilled builders who still work with us to this day. Thanks to this collaboration, our company underwent significant transformation.

Unprecedented Demand and New Offerings: Architectural and Interior Design, The Luna Tiny Home
The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic brought about a surprising surge in demand for our homes. As people sought to escape city life and connect with nature, David’s passion for nature-inspired design became even more relevant. Many of our clients desired homes that blurred the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces.
In response to this demand, we expanded our offerings to include Architectural and Interior Design for site-built homes of all sizes. This marked a pivotal change in our company’s trajectory.
We also launched our most accessible and budget-friendly model, The Luna Tiny Home, which received widespread acclaim and high demand.
To further enhance our production capabilities, we partnered with Movable Roots, known for their excellent craftsmanship and product quality.
On a personal note, Zac and David amicably parted ways, with David becoming the sole owner of New Frontier. Despite this change, they remain friends.
