Nanostead is a company that specializes in offering all-inclusive opportunities for people who want to lead a more self-sufficient life. With extensive experience in sustainable agriculture, green construction, and environmentalism, Nanostead provides custom-built Tiny Homes, Small Cabins, Accessory Dwellings, and Design services.

History:

In 2002, Jeramy Stauffer moved to North Carolina from Vermont and found a new family in South East Ecological Design, Nanostead’s sister company. Focusing solely on green building, Jeramy built a 327 sq. ft. home in the Shelton Laurel community of Madison County in 2004. During the construction of this home, he purchased a 19’ Yome from http://redskyshelters.com/ and learned that living in small spaces could be very comfortable.

After building multiple homes for South East Ecological Design, Jeramy decided to create his own business in 2013. He brought Kevin Ward, the owner of South East Ecological Design, as an equity partner and lead designer. Nanostead’s first job was at the Hot Springs Campground, where they built two vacation cabins. During this process, they built the Villager Tiny Home for Natalie Pollard, the owner of Villagers Homestead Supply in West Asheville, NC.

The Villager model gained national attention after being featured on television shows such as Tiny House Hunters and CNN and published in various magazines and blogs. Jeramy has since become an educator for the Tiny House Movement, teaching classes and workshops at AB Tech Community College and The Organic Growers School in Asheville, NC. Jeramy and Kevin are also available to speak at events and teach classes and workshops. Nanostead hopes to use their commercial space to host workshops and invite others to teach small-scale homesteading classes.
