In 2008, Lisa M. Jan, the visionary and founder of Blue Moon Rising, had a unique vision of integrating vacation rental properties with sustainable construction practices and techniques. As we constructed our facility, we made deliberate decisions to prioritize the well-being of the earth and its resources, aiming to create an unparalleled vacation experience while minimizing our impact on the natural landscape.

At the core of BMR’s philosophy is zero waste. Every tree that was removed from the site was carefully assessed for reuse elsewhere in the project, whether as trim, a support post, or as wood to fuel the highly efficient masonry stove. The soil excavated during foundation work was meticulously sifted and combined with clay, water, and lime to create natural plaster coatings for the interior and exterior straw bale walls of our flagship building, “The Leap”.

Even after construction was completed, we continue to uphold our earth-first principles in the day-to-day operations of Blue Moon Rising.
