The story of Atchafalaya Homes began in 1998 when brothers Mike and Doug Stephens, who grew up in a family immersed in the manufactured home business, decided to start their own venture. With just five pre-owned homes, they launched Atchafalaya Homes. Within four years, their dedication and vision transformed the company into the largest and most trusted manufactured home dealer in Louisiana.

The Story Behind the Little Red Truck

How did the Little Red Truck end up on our roof? Let me share its tale. One day, a Little Old Cajun Man came in, skeptical about the strength of manufactured homes. He firmly stated he’d never buy a trailer, claiming they couldn’t withstand storms.

I spotted a small red truck in the parking lot, owned by one of my salespeople, and asked the man, “If I drive that little red truck onto the roof of one of our homes to prove its strength, will you buy it?” He replied, “If you can drive that truck on the roof, I’ll pay cash for the home.”

Challenge accepted! The next day, we met again, and I had the Little Red Truck placed on the roof. I drove it across the home’s roof, proving its durability. True to his word, the Cajun Man paid cash for the home. I bought the truck from my salesperson, and it has proudly remained on the roof of one of our homes ever since.
