A Tiny Home for Good, Inc.: Providing Affordable, Safe, and Dignified Housing for Individuals Facing Homelessness

Mission: A Tiny Home for Good, Inc. is committed to supporting individuals facing homelessness by offering affordable, safe, and dignified homes, and fostering strong community partnerships to promote resident stability.

What We Do: We have established a growing collection of 300-square-foot houses, specifically designed for individuals who have experienced homelessness, with a special focus on U.S. veterans. Each home is built on vacant city lots and features a living area, bed, kitchen, bathroom, and access to a professional care manager. Rent is determined on a sliding scale based on income to ensure affordability.

Cost and Funding: Each unit costs $28,500 to build, primarily relying on volunteer labor and donated supplies. The majority of our funding comes from private donations, with additional support from grants and resident rent (30 percent of a resident’s monthly income).

Our Approach:

1. Property Acquisition: We conduct careful research to identify suitable properties across Syracuse, New York. We seek vacant city lots with zoning codes that allow for the construction of single-occupancy tiny homes.
2. Resident Move-In: Each home is rented to one individual who has experienced homelessness, with a recent focus on supporting U.S. veterans. Rent is determined on a sliding scale, taking into consideration the resident’s income.
3. Building: Our homes are 300 sq. ft. and equipped with all the necessary amenities of a regular-sized home. We collaborate with local contractors and businesses to construct the homes from the ground up, with the support of volunteers from the community.
4. Support Services: Through partnerships with care management organizations in the Syracuse area, each resident is connected with a professional care manager who provides ongoing support and assistance.
