A Community for Veterans in Transition
The objective of this initiative is to offer safe and adequate shelter for our esteemed veterans. As a county and community, it is our responsibility to address the needs of our residents. Empowering individuals to live independently and contribute to society benefits everyone.
In early October 2018, Clackamas County Commissioners achieved a long-awaited milestone in their efforts to address veteran homelessness.
The Clackamas County Veterans Village, a transitional shelter community for veterans, is the result of collaborative efforts involving commissioners, county staff, nonprofits, charities, local governments, and businesses.
Located in the Clackamas area, the village currently provides housing for 15 residents in individual pods, each equipped with a safe sleeping space and personal item storage. Shared kitchen, bathroom, and shower facilities, as well as meeting spaces, are also available at the village.
The meeting spaces are crucial, as they provide access to onsite services aimed at helping veterans become self-sufficient and eventually transition to stable housing.
An opening ceremony was held prior to the residents moving in, providing an opportunity for the commissioners to express gratitude to all those involved in this significant undertaking.
