Rogue Retreat, established in 1998, initially operated a Recovery House for those struggling with addiction. However, in 2006, Rogue Retreat redefined its mission to primarily address the growing issue of homelessness in Southern Oregon. It now focuses on providing housing and relationship-based case management to help participants overcome barriers to obtaining stable housing and achieving self-sufficiency.
In 2009, Rogue Retreat was granted two sizable funds by the State of Oregon, which allowed for the acquisition of 19 apartments and case management funding, transforming Rogue Retreat into a Permanent Supportive Housing Program for the homeless. In 2010, Rogue Retreat partnered with the Housing Authority of Jackson County to purchase and operate an additional 23 apartments under its program.
Over time, Rogue Retreat has expanded its services to include oversight of 44 apartments, women’s and men’s recovery homes, the Kelly Shelter (the first year-round “low barrier” shelter in Southern Oregon), Hope Village (the first tiny house village in Southern Oregon) in Medford, Urban Campground (the first urban campground in Southern Oregon), three social enterprises (Clean Sweep, Hope University, Thrift Shop), with plans to operate the Foundry Village and a shelter in Grants Pass.
The case management services offered by Rogue Retreat have also grown to encompass wrap-around supportive services that assist participants in transitioning into permanent housing and achieving self-sufficiency. Rogue Retreat believes in providing a helping hand to those experiencing homelessness, supporting their journey towards stability.
Rogue Retreat’s case managers regularly assess the progress of each adult member of every household in areas such as housing, employment, income, food & nutrition, childcare, education, healthcare, family relations, mobility, community involvement, legal matters, mental health, substance abuse, and safety. These assessments are conducted at intake, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and thereafter at 6-month intervals until program exit, with the goal of helping participants move out of “In Crisis” or “At Risk” categories in 15 different life domains. On average, participants increase their self-sufficiency by 32% upon program completion.
Mission: To create opportunities for the homeless to have hope.
Rogue Retreat provides affordable housing, shelter, and comprehensive case management services to homeless individuals and families in Jackson and Josephine Counties, Oregon, to equip them with the skills they need to live independently.
